“ My child’s confidence improved enormously, she felt supported and listened to, and the sessions really made a positive impact on her academic achievement.”
Millaine has an intuitive understanding of kids who think differently, and my boys felt accepted and not at all self-conscious about their challenges around her. They never once complained about having to go to tutoring. On the contrary, they looked forward to it, and they'd often mention things that they wanted to show or tell Millaine during the week before they saw her. They both gained confidence in their academic work in a calm and welcoming atmosphere that nourished their creativity while helping with their schoolwork.
When I'd tried to tutor my daughter previously it had often ended in sulking, even tears. But with Millaine's weekly one-hour lesson my daughter began to look forward to their sessions which was a massive turnaround. First, she focussed on making sure my daughter's maths and English skills were top-notch, then she introduced Non-verbal and Verbal Reasoning with an eye to sitting the Wandsworth Test. It was wonderful to watch my daughter grow in confidence and tackle these new subjects. As well as teaching, Millaine also gave us concrete advice on school admissions, exam technique, and shared tips. I felt fully listened to and involved in the process.
Thank you so much to Millaine. After years of being made to feel like I was imagining problems with my son’s processing and learning it was a relief that Millaine took the time to listen to my concerns and explain reports to me that were difficult to pick apart. This has enabled me to seek the help my son needs and help him make progress. We still have a long way to go but thanks to your knowledge and help, we are on the right path.
When my daughter started with Millaine she was struggling with all aspects of English particularly spelling, handwriting, grammar and found it challenging getting her ideas on paper. Millaine was able to identify exactly what my daughter needed and worked with her to develop learning strategies to improve and build her confidence. My daughter has just passed her 11 plus exams with offers from all schools she applied for (grammar and independent schools). This would not have been possible without Millaine’s amazing teaching and support. She’s helped myself as a parent to understand and navigate the right conversations with SEN departments and teachers to ensure the schools give her the interventions and additional time to do her exams.
Millaine has such a caring nature with the children and inspires them to explore new ideas and techniques to help them with their school work. She challenges my child by reading and exploring topics that my daughter enjoys, to make the classes more interesting and thought provoking. My daughter has so much more confidence and thoroughly enjoys attending the classes with Millaine.
My daughter thoroughly enjoys her tuition with Millaine. She has helped her grasp concepts that she has struggled with in school. She identified her strengths and weaknesses and makes the tuition fun and interesting. She has built on her strengths and constructed a plan that has allowed my daughter to see different ways to solve problems and pick the techniques that work best for her. My daughter's confidence has significantly grown since working with Millaine and she looks forward to her tutorial every week.
We first signed our son up to your online group classes feeling pretty confident that they would be of benefit as we saw how you conducted your lessons during the free trial. What we hadn't expected was that we were signing up as a family and that you were there to support and guide us too. Although it was a group class of mixed abilities, we felt that our son's individual needs were catered for and by the end of the course you had a very clear understanding of his abilities and character. He never complained when it was time for your lesson! We have gained some new insights and helpful tips going forward and even though we know it is a long tough road ahead we feel more positive about the outcome
My child was struggling with school and very stressed when Millaine first started tutoring her, but I found that she really understood my daughter’s needs and worked patiently with her to devise strategies that she was confident using both in and out of school. My child’s confidence improved enormously, she felt supported and listened to, and the sessions really made a positive impact on her academic achievement.
My son really enjoyed his 11+ preparation lessons with Millaine. She creates a relaxed and purposeful atmosphere and teaches lots of practical and useful tips for answering verbal and non-verbal questions. My son was very well prepared for the Wandsworth Test and achieved the result that he was hoping for.
My son who is 8 years of age continued to struggle in his writing and spelling after many years of non-specialised tuition. I was recommended by a friend who was a primary school teacher herself to see Millaine. She was confident that Millaine would know how to target the issues. She worked with my son for only a few sessions but managed to accurately identify what his weaknesses were and developed an action plan for him. You can tell Millaine is well studied and trained in her field and what really shone through was her evident passion for teaching English, using creative and engaging ways to deliver the tuition. My son was comfortable with her and actually looked forward to his sessions. Would recommend her to anyone with children who hasn't seen significant improvements with mainstream tutors.
Millaine is a lovely tutor who has a calm, friendly manner. I wanted to write and say how thrilled we were. We knew our son to be capable, and needed someone to unlock the key to those few issues that were holding him back. Millaine was just the person, spending time with him, working on what he was capable of and gradually introducing elements that he was finding difficult. He got into Wilson's Grammar School, something we know would not have been possible without Millaine’s worthwhile guidance and tutorage. I would like to wholeheartedly thank you for helping our son achieve his potential.
I think that the tutoring from Millaine really helped in the sense that I can read better now. Here's the thing , it wasn't boring, it wasn't like those tutors where it is all kind of boring and its all work, work, work, it was actually fun at the same time. It was definitely different and different for the better and I think it really helped me.
I found Millaine through the PATOSS network. I am glad I found her. Millaine had a calm, clear and reassuring manner with my son. I found she listened very carefully. Millaine was open to discussion and exploring what the issues might be. She sent me a helpful report afterwards, summarising what we had discussed and her observations and advice. I would definitely recommend Millaine.
I was nervous about being assessed but Millaine made me feel welcome and relaxed. The diagnostic report that she wrote explained why I had been struggling with exams and essay writing even though I knew I understood the lessons at school. Talking to Millaine made me feel positive about the future!
Millaine has a natural gift of making people feel comfortable when they are talking about their vulnerabilities. I received great insight and practical support which has been a huge benefit to my personal development.
My daughter Helen was struggling with her school work. Talking to Millaine helped us to identify what exactly she was finding difficult in her learning. She also advised us how to approach her school. Her school now recognises her learning difficulty and has arranged appropriate measures. I'm so glad that I sought help from Millaine; my daughter now doesn't have to blame herself for the difficulty she is experiencing, which has helped her be more positive about learning in general.
I was apprehensive about sending my son for a dyslexia assessment, but I needn’t have worried as Millaine immediately made him feel relaxed and comfortable and he actually quite enjoyed the process! Her recommendations were extremely helpful as they were all achievable in school and she took the time to guide me through a number of suggestions that could make a difference at home too.
Millaine has an extensive knowledge of age-related expectations for all year groups at primary level children. In training she supported us in moderating writing and highlighted the gaps that were preventing a child from being at expected levels for their year group. It was a highly effective session. Thank you.
Millaine is extremely approachable. She is quick and practical and solves problems effectively. Her creative flare enables her to provide unique ideas in order to support the children in their learning.
Millaine’s advice and support have been much appreciated. I have used the techniques learnt in her training sessions and passed them on to my team in Reception. My own delivery and enjoyment of lessons has been enhanced. She has excellent understanding of and teaching techniques for SEN children.
Millaine has an excellent understanding of how children learn and the difficulties they can experience accessing the curriculum. She delivers training in an accessible and interesting way and provides activities and strategies that translate easily to the classroom. She is a fun and friendly teacher with a warm and welcoming manner.
